WHO ARE WE?
We are a Canadian family who first started building a little rental business in the countryside hiring local people for the construction. Gradually the help continued in the village and the guests staying at SunCampDR got involved in many activities in the community. Now, most of the renters and visitors are volunteers. It is also amazing to realize that many guests who just come for a vacation or to learn Spanish find something enjoyable to help. The ambiance and the friendship is exceptional!
We now have a registered Foundation: Fondation SuncampDR
Recently, the foundation has rented a little wooden house behind the public school of Munoz and this house is our temporary Community Center where most of our volunteers do their activities. We are located across the soccer field and in between the 3 Haitian schools. We found the perfect location!
We have been in the Dominican Republic for 25 years and 14 years in Munoz. Now, we can lodge 25 volunteers at SunCampDR Apartments Rentals. We can walk to the village easily and safely. Our guests like to purchase in the local little market and they like to socialize with the friendly Dominicans and Haitiens.
ABOUT MUNOZ VILLAGE
Munoz is knowed to be the cradle of Puerto Plata. We have a very privileged location. We are located right across Playa Dorada, the tourist complex of 14 hotels. Public transportation is very efficient and very economical. We are at 8km from Puerto Plata airport, Gregorio Luperon. Munoz is a friendly village with a few healthy and well knowed Dominicans and the rest of the community is mainly very poor. The Haitian Bateyes were formed originally of Haitians who came to cut the sugar cane. Now they are like a little community of their own with conditions under any acceptable standards.
There are a few industries, like the water fabric, asphalt and cement fabrics. There are 3 Haitiens schools and one Governmental school and many churches. There are many bars, discotecs, corner stores, etc.
